In Touch with Durham County
T he "In Touch with Durham County Government Show" provides governmental programming and access to your local government and provides timely, ongoing coverage of Durham County Government through the Government Access Television program.
"In Touch with Durham County," a new talk show now airs daily on Cable Channel 8. This new show replaces the former Durham County Government Sho that viewers have enjoyed since 1991. Michael Page, Chairman of the Durham Board of County Commissioners and Assistant County Manager Deborah Craig-Ray are the hosts.
The purpose of the show is to share relevant, timely information from Durham County community partner agencies, as well as provide interviews with elected officials, county department heads and key staff. Future topics include fall elections, updates on H1N1 or "swine flu," and county nonprofit agencies.
Show Details
On March 2010 edition of the "In Touch with Durham County," the show's hosts sit down with Dr. Sherman James and Andrea McMillon of the African-American Health Improvement Partnership. The organziation, based at Duke Univeristy, is dedicated to reducing minority health disparities in Durham. The second segment of the show focused on Census 2010. Yvonne M. Sanks, Durham Local Census Office Manager prepares residents for the 2010 Census now underway. She discusses the recent open house at the office, the shortened Census form and jobs that are still available.
Past Events and Guests of the "In Touch with Durham County Government Show"
Last month, "In Touch with Durham County" spoke with Ellen Reckhow, vice chairman for the Durham Board of County Commissioners, about various opportunities to improve citizen engagement. Reckhow discussed Durham's many boards and commissions and Durham Neighborhood College. Recent train-motor vehicle accidents in Durham and surrounding areas have increased concern about railroad safety. In the second segment of the February show, Vivian Speight-Bridges, executive director of North Carolina Operation Lifesaver, highlighted vital information about railroad safety.
"In Touch with Durham County" is shown at:
- 8 a.m. Monday-Saturday
- Noon and 5 p.m. Mondays
- Noon and 6 p.m. Tuesday –Saturday
