Durham, N.C. – Yesterday, Oct 16,
One-Stop Voting kicked off across the state. As predicted, thousands of voters began
to cast their ballots for president in the early voting process. Durham County saw a record-breaking
number of 6,264 ballots cast. The
closest one-day high of 4,476 was set on October 29, 2004, during the 2004 vote
for president.
“Democracy had
a terrific day,” said Michael Ashe, director of the Durham County Board of
Elections. “As citizens continue to
vote early, I expect yesterday’s record will be broken. There are 16 days to go before early
voting ends on Saturday, November 1.”
