BOCC Meeting Highlights from July 26

Durham, N.C. – The Durham Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) met in a Regular Session Meeting on Monday, July 26 at 7p.m. and considered an agenda that included the following highlights:

The BOCC honored the Bull City Slam Team, a poetry/spoken word team that won the team competition section of the 18th Annual South Fried Poetry Slam 2010 hosted in Knoxville, Tennessee.  The team, sponsored by the St. Joseph’s Historic Foundation, accepted a resolution from the Board that congratulated their recent top honors.   Team member Kane Smego provided the BOCC with a sample of poetry/spoken word.  The team will compete in the Poetry Slam Inc’s National Poetry Slam in St. Paul, Minnesota in early August.

The BOCC held a public hearing on the 751 Assemblage.  Prior to the public hearing, that included more than 70 speakers, the BOCC heard a presentation from the Durham City-County Planning Department that described their analysis of the application for the project.  The staff from the City-County Planning Department recommended that the BOCC approve the 751 Assemblage project based on its consistency with the Comprehensive Plan, Unified Development Ordinance and considering the information identified in the Zone Map Change Report.  The county attorney requested additional time to examine a recently received Declaration of Revocation, Rejection and Termination of Easement to Dedicate Right of Way from the North Carolina Department of Transportation before the BOCC voted on the project.  The BOCC agreed to continue the discussion on the 751 Assemblage at the next BOCC Regular Session Meeting on Monday, August 9.

The BOCC did not complete all items on the July 26 agenda at their Regular Session Meeting.  The BOCC will address the unvisited items at a special meeting on Thursday, July 29 at 7 p.m.:

  • Resolution calling for a November 2, 2010 Durham County Special Referendum on Levying a ¼ cent County Sales and Use Tax
  • Board and Commission Appointments
  • Items Pulled from Consent Agenda
