Collaborative Training Teaches Restaurateurs Safe Food Handling Practices

Event Facts:

  • The ServSafe 18-hour Manager's Certification course is approved by the state of North Carolina for a possible two-point credit on all program participants’ restaurant inspections.
  • Certification will be issued by the National Restaurant Association. 
  • Expert educators for Durham and Orange County Cooperative Extension, Environmental Health, Extension Food Science Department at North Carolina State University (NCSU), Family and Consumer Science Department of Cooperative Extension at NCSU, and Extension Entomology at NCSU will collaborate to teach principles in preparing, serving, and storing safe food to program participants.
  • After the completion of the ServSafe 18-hour Manager's Certification course on August 12, the certification exam will be given on August 16, at 9 a.m.  The course will be taught in English.  The certification exam is available in English, Spanish, Chinese, Japanese, and Korean. 
  • The cost of the ServSafe 18-hour Manager's Certification course is $130.  Pre-registration is required for the course and will close or mailed in applications must be postmarked on or before July 26 for early registration.   The late registration fee of $150 will be offered until August 6. 
  • Program participants will receive the ServSafe Course Book, a thermometer and two lunches.
