Durham, N.C. – Annually, thousands of
residents visit the Durham County Register of Deeds (ROD) to record and obtain
copies of important documents such as death, birth and marriage records. To preserve these essential documents,
the Vital Records Division of the ROD Office will begin to restore, conserve and
digitize all vital records.
Effective,
Wednesday, May 5, 2010, the preservation process of vital records will
begin. This process may affect the
level of service provided by the ROD Office. Delays may occur when residents seek
copies of vital records.
Vital records
will be removed for preservation and conservation using the following schedule:

Residents that
need assistance obtaining certified copies of vital records should contact the
ROD Office at 919-560-0495 or visit the office on the ground floor of the Durham
County Administrative Building, located at 200 East Main Street. The ROD Office is open Monday through
Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
