Durham, N.C. – Funding associated with
the American Recovery and Reinvestment Bill of 2009 has slowly trickled down to
local governments, including Durham County Government. Currently, $21 million has come directly
to or passed through Durham County to aid much needed public services and
jumpstart the economy.
“Stimulus funds
received through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act have provided
support for the neediest of our citizens,” said Drew Cummings, assistant county
manager for special projects or Durham County Government. “The vast majority
of Durham County’s aid is food related and the next tier of funding has
been allotted for Medicaid, childcare subsidy, and to help reduce
homelessness in Durham.”
