Durham,
N.C. – Durham County Government will close most
of its offices on Thursday, November 26 and Friday, November 27, in recognition
of the Thanksgiving holiday. The
county will reopen all offices on Monday, November 30, with normal hours of
operation.
Durham Center:
The Durham Center
will follow the Durham County holiday closing schedule. The Durham Center Access, a facility for
stabilization and short-term treatment of adults with mental health,
developmental disability and substance abuse, located at 309 Crutchfield Street,
will maintain its 24 hour,7 days a week, 365 days a year schedule.

Durham County Library:
All locations of the Durham
County Library will close at 6 p.m. on
Wednesday, November 25, and remain closed through Friday, November 27. The library will resume its regular
schedule on Saturday, November 28.

Durham County
Convenience Centers:
The Durham County General Services Department will close
its four Solid Waste and Recycling Convenience Centers to the public on
Thursday, November 27 until Saturday, November 28. Durham County residents with a current
solid waste decal can resume disposal of garbage, recycling, yard waste and
bulky items on Monday, November 30, beginning at 7 a.m. until 7 p.m.
Durham County’s roadside recycling customers normally
serviced on Thursdays will receive collection service on Saturday, November 28,
instead of Thursday, November 27. Residents are reminded to set out
recycling bins before 7 a.m. on the day of pick up to avoid a missed collection.
Citizens can
take used cooking oil should be taken to the Redwood and Bahama Convenience
Centers only. Only liquid oils will be accepted for collection.
Heavier fats, such as griddle grease and animal fats will not be accepted.
Citizens
should note that pallets, oyster shells, oil filters and plastic bottles may not
be disposed of in the trash in North Carolina.

Social Services:
The Durham County Department of Social Services (DSS) will
follow the Durham County holiday closing schedule. To report child abuse and neglect or
adult abuse and neglect, citizens should call 911 to reach an on-call social
worker.
