Michelle Parker-Evans
has been appointed
Durham County’s new Clerk to the Board of Commissioners. She succeeds previous Clerk Vonda Sessoms who retired on
August 30.
Parker-Evans, who is currently senior
executive assistant to the Durham City Manager, has spent her extensive
professional career spanning 23 years working with various public entities
including the U. S. Department of State, City of Durham, City of Raleigh and
Durham County. Parker-Evans holds a B. S. degree from Shaw University.
In making the
appointment, Board Chairman Michael D. Page said, “We are grateful that Michelle
Parker-Evans is returning to Durham County Government after serving in other
capacities throughout the country. Her thorough knowledge and expertise of
county government operations will enhance the quality service that the
staff of the Clerk to the Board has continued to provide. Michelle has
worked in various capacities with local government and is eager to continue her
service to the citizens of Durham County”.
“I am honored to be appointed as Clerk to
the Board for Durham County”, said Ms. Parker-Evans on her appointment.
She continued, “As a Durham native, I am excited about the opportunity to serve
my community in this capacity. I am committed to providing professional,
efficient, and effective assistance to all citizens of Durham. I
look forward to working with the Board of County Commissioners and County
administration to enhance the quality of life for our
citizenry.”
As Clerk to the Board, Ms. Evans will
be officially responsible for preparing Board meeting agendas, maintaining and
transmitting official meeting minutes, certifying legal documents on behalf of
Durham County, and other duties in accordance with North Carolina General
Statutes.
In addition she will assist the Board
of Commissioners with a wide array of miscellaneous assignments as well as
manage the office personnel.
Evans will assume her duties on
Monday, November 30. The Board of County Commissioners approved an annual salary
of $61,000.
