Gov. Perdue Appoints Page to Governor’s Crime Commission

RALEIGH – Gov. Bev Perdue has appointed Michael D. Page of Durham to the Governor’s Crime Commission.

 

Page is the pastor of Antioch Baptist Church and director of campus ministries at N.C. Central University.    He is president of the Durham Martin Luther King, Jr. Steering Committee, the Kappas of Durham Foundation, chairman of the Antioch Builds Community non-profit organization, the Durham County Board of Commissioners, a member of the Salvation Army Boys and Girls Club and the National Association of County Commissions.  Page was awarded the Chancellor’s Merit Award by N.C. Central University in 2003 and the National Citizen of the Year Award by Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated in 2004.  He received his bachelor’s degree in public administration from North Carolina Central University, his master’s degree in theology from Shaw Divinity School and he will receive his doctorate of ministry in May 2010  from the United Theological Seminary, located in Ohio.

 

The Crime Commission advises the governor on matters related to the criminal justice system and makes recommendations for improving the justice system, protecting individual rights and promoting public safety. The commission has 42 members, each serving a three-year term. The governor appoints 25 members
