Service:    Communicable Disease Control
Description: Monitors communicable, infectious diseases in the community.  Answers questions about infectious disease and infectious disease prevention.
Eligibility: Durham County Residents
Fees: None
Access: Monday - Friday, 8:00AM- 12:00PM, 1:00PM-5PM

Service:    Early Intervention Clinic
Description: Provides medical treatment and social work services to people with HIV/AIDS in any
stage of the disease
Eligibility: Durham County residents
Fees: None
Access: Durham County Health Department 
Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, 8:30-11am and 1-4pm; 
Tuesday, 8:30-11am and 1-6pm

Service:    HIV Testing and Counseling
Description: Provides confidential counseling and testing for anyone who has been sexually active or has questions regarding HIV and/or AIDS
Eligibility: No eligibility requirements
Fees: None
Access: Durham County Health Department
Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, 8:30-11am and 1-4pm; 
Tuesday, 8:30-11am and 1-6pm
Average waiting period is 15 minutes.  First come first serve

Service:    Foodborne Illness
Description: An investigation is initiated when a confirmed case of food poisoning arises and when several individuals have a common source of illness.  An Environmental Health Specialist (EHS) interviews those persons affected or potentially exposed to determine foods consumed, symptoms experience, and time of onset of symptoms.  Food service personnel are questioned as to methods utilized in food preparation.  Food service establishments are examined to determine proper functioning of equipment and samples of related food are collected for laboratory analysis to determine if contaminated.  Attending Physicians are consulted for input as needed.  The specialist then compiles all the data and employs statistical methods to infer conclusions and determine the cause of the outbreak.  The EHS ensuring that corrective measures are implemented makes follow-up compliance visits to the food service establishment involved

Service:    Pharmacy
Description: Fills prescriptions for clinics only.  NO OUTSIDE PRESCRIPTIONS are accepted.  Consultation and counseling about prescriptions is provided.  Drug interactions are screened, and condoms are provided to the public.
Eligibility: Durham County Health Department patients
Fees: No
Access: Monday - Friday, 8:30am-5:00pm, Tuesday evening open until 7pm, Closed 12:30-1:00pm for lunch, Average waiting period is 10 to 20 minutes

Service:    Jail Testing Program
Description:

The division of health education has two health educators who provide educational sessions and HIV and Syphilis testing for inmates in the Durham County Jail.  Individuals who test positive for HIV or Syphilis receive referrals for treatment.

Service:    HIV / STD education and testing
Description:

Programs provided by the Health Education Division of the Durham County Health Department, offering prevention education, HIV/STD testing, and community outreach. 

Eligibility: Durham County residents
Fees: None (group sessions need to be scheduled in advance).
Access: Individuals or groups, community health fairs, outreach events

Service:    Project STAND ( Syhlilis Termination and Awareness in Durham) KISS (Knowing is Sexy)
Description:

Project STAND provides syphilis and HIV testing and education at specific community sites in Durham. KISS is an initiative of Project STAND to assist individuals in making informed decisions about their sexual health through social media (Knowing IS Sexy on Facebook).
