Recycling Resources for Schools

Educational presentations are provided to schools in Durham courtesy of Durham County General Services, Solid Waste Division.

Presentations can be for a classroom or a student club/organization.  All programs are designed to last 45 minutes - 1 hour, but can be flexible to meet your specific needs.

Elementary Grades 3-5: Become a Recycling Leader!

This program is for students who want to be involved in the recycling program.  We will start with a refresher on how to recycle at school and the important role students can play.  Then we’ll go over ways they can teach other students about recycling with special games, songs, and other activities.

Middle School Grades 6-8: The Recycling Cycle

In this presentation, students will learn about the cycle of recycling.  We’ll follow a few commonly recycled items from the time they are placed in a recycling bin to when they arrive on a store shelf as a new product.  We’ll discuss the benefits of recycling and end with a reminder of how to recycle at home and at school.

High School Grades 9-12: 20 Questions

This is a dynamic presentation in which your class or club can submit up to 20 questions prior to your scheduled presentation.  The questions can range from recycling, garbage, landfills, etc., as long as they are related to solid waste management.  During the presentation, those questions (and more…) will be answered.

To request a presentation, contact Chrissie Koroivui, Waste Reduction Specialist at 919-560-0442 or email mkoroivui@durhamcountync.gov.
