 >   Department Function

The mission of the Durham County Criminal Justice Resource Center is to provide a wide array of services to criminal justice stakeholders, as well as adult and juvenile offenders. Service delivery builds upon and is provided in cooperation with various agencies within Durham County such as the juvenile and adult detention center, The Durham Center, the judicial system, other human services organizations, DJJDP, Durham Public Schools and the NC Department of Corrections.

The department’s functions focus on three goals:

  • Delivery of quality services so offenders and at-risk youth can become productive, successful citizens.
  • Supervision and monitoring of high-risk offenders residing in Durham County to increase public safety.
  • Collate and disseminate various information including criminal and treatment histories.

The department serves the criminal justice community through Court Services and Pretrial Services. These programs supply a vast amount of information to judges, district attorneys and defense attorneys, as well as individuals in the adult criminal court system and their families. The information is intended to assist the Court in determining an offender’s risk level, as well as facilitate referrals and orders to appropriate services and programs.

STARR, Day Reporting Center, Reentry, and Second Chance aim to reduce offender recidivism through the provision of highly structured programs where offenders learn to modify behavior patterns that lead to criminal activities. Day Reporting Center and Reentry, as well as Pretrial Services provide increased monitoring and supervision of high-risk offenders and those awaiting sentencing through daily reporting, curfew and electronic monitoring.

Durham County Criminal Justice Resource Center is located at 326 E Main Street, Durham. Hours of operation are: Monday – Thursday 8:30 AM – 8:30 PM and Friday 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM.

The department director reports to the Deputy County Manager overseeing Public Safety.
