Commissioner Pam H. Karriker was appointed to her position on September 28, 2011.  She replaced former commissioner Becky Heron who retired from her position on August 1.

 
Karriker is a third generation Durham native, educated in Durham Public Schools.  She initially became interested in local government after serving as a neighborhood watch volulnteer.  A mortgage processor and underwriter for 16 years, for the last decade she has been a full time community volunteer and pastor's wife. 
 
She has been married to her husband, Dub, for 32 years and they have served as foster parents.
